OKLAHOMA CITY - The Douglass athletic department announced the hiring of Damon Turner as their new football head coach on Thursday afternoon.

Turner comes to Douglass from Edmond Santa Fe, where he served as an assistant football coach for the Wolves while also coaching wrestling and track. He brings a wealth of coaching success to the Trojans football program as he's been apart of six state championships and over 10 conference championships with a headset on.

Turner grew up in Lawton before moving to Midwest City when he was 12. He went on to become an All-State football player for Carl Albert High School while earning a scholarship to play at the University of Wyoming. During his time with the Cowboys, he majored in Child Development and that's when the bug to start coaching kicked in.

"Taking the head football coaching position at Douglass High School is a dream come true." said Turner. "We will build a program that brings back the pride of the East Side through our team core values of "Commitment, Accountability, Discipline, Effort, and Sacrifice."

"My goals are to change the culture here at Douglass and have a positive impact in the community. I want my players to graduate and I want to help mold them into better young men when they leave this place."

Turner has two kids and in his spare time enjoys spending time with family, playing golf, reading, playing dominoes and card games, and listening to music.
