OKLAHOMA CITY – Friday Night Lights are officially back in Oklahoma City Public Schools! Last weekend, the district hosted its annual ACAC Football Previews at Taft and Speegle Stadiums for nine schools within OKCPS.

The event offered a fresh format this year with “Round Robin” action taking place on Thursday night at Taft Stadium. All nine schools rotated in and out of offense/defense, providing a chance for every team to go up against each other in at least a few plays. At the end of this session, all head coaches were handed a ballot to rank the schools for bracket play on Friday night.

The top four teams advanced to the “winner’s bracket” with the other five battling it out in the “consolation bracket”. After the voting ended, the OKCPS administration rifled through the ballots and the brackets were created.

Capitol Hill, U.S. Grant, Northwest Classen, Star Spencer, and Western Heights were seeded into the consolation bracket at Speegle Stadium while Southeast, John Marshall, Douglass, and Classen SAS were tossed into the winner’s bracket at Taft.

Friday night’s games consisted of one full-length 12-minute quarter, resembling a live contest outside of kickoffs.

The Knights and Bobcats found themselves in the final of the consolation bracket while the winner’s bracket featured some fantastic contests as well. In the first semifinal game at Taft, John Marshall jumped all over Classen SAS as the Bears won the period 19-0 to advance to the championship game.

On the other side of the bracket, Douglass and Southeast were locked in a defensive battle. The Spartans were able to find the endzone near the end of the period and held off the Trojans 6-0 to advance to the title game.

The championship game between the Bears and Spartans featured more high-octane offense as both teams were able to move the ball down the field. After the Spartans forced a turnover, they quickly capitalized with a score to make it 7-0. Later in the period, Southeast tacked on another score to make it 13-0 and made it difficult on any kind of John Marshall comeback. The final horn sounded and Southeast hoisted the ACAC Championship trophy.¬
